Vishnugupta VishwaVidyapeetha

vvv

A ViśvaVidyāPīṭha, reminiscent of Takṣaśilā ViśvaVidyālaya of yesteryears is coming up very soon to preserve and promote the invaluable treasure of Bhāratīya knowledge and art! That will be in Gokarna, the holy seat of Lord Śankara’s only Ātmaliṅga; in the holy land of Ashokavana, which was sanctified by the sacred footsteps of ĀdiŚankara not once, but three times over!

-HisHoliness Sri SriRaghaveshwara Bharathi Mahaswamiji

Fellow countrymen who raise your head proudly and proclaim Bhārata is my country, this is God’s call for you! Country’s call! Call of our ancestors! Call of your very soul!

Let’s preserve and protect the remaining vidyās, let’s promote them, let’s preserve and put to practice the light given by God to the living world.

Message from HisHoliness Sri Sri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Mahaswamiji…

Here is a ViśvaVidyāPīṭha in commemoration of Śrī Śaṅkarācārya

Did you know?

There was a time when Sāmaveda, which is one among the four Vedas, had over a thousand branches!

Pātañjala Bhāṣya eulogizes – Sahasravartmā sāmavedaḥ.

How great! One branch of knowledge with a thousand streams! Hundreds of such branches of learning existed in this land! But sadly, this belongs to bygone ages; picture today is pathetic. Out of a thousand branches of Sāmaveda only three are surviving!! One among these three is near its inevitable end, and the existence of the other two hangs precariously in the balance! We can’t take solace that the problem exists only with the Sāmaveda and the rest are all fine; the story is the same everywhere about the rich Bhāratīya heritage of knowledge. They are on the path of distortion and destruction.

Every spark of knowledge, ignited by the great seers, who are our ancestors, is incomparable! Boundless! The utility of that treasure to the entire universe is beyond words! But today each spark of knowledge has – either got distorted or lost its meaning, if not already become extinct. A few that are left are moving fast towards extinction!

Why did this befall?

Outsiders, who ruled us for centuries, neglected our traditional education system; they forced their ‘non-knowledge’ on us. None from us grew to become proud children befitting the might of our parents; our people who neither had any knowledge nor any pride about our heritage threw the nectar-like knowledge bestowed on us by our ancestors and imbibed the insipid and slavish culture and values of outsiders in the name of modern education.

The result – our golden treasure became their property and the outsider’s trash began to adorn the pride of place in our seat of worship!

However, crying on the split milk doesn’t make any sense; crying doesn’t make any difference. Times have come to such a pass that no one cares if one cries or even dies for our heritage or knowledge! We have to protect our nation and religion. Even at the cost of our sweat and blood, we have to preserve our rich culture.

Yadāyadā hi dharmasya

glānirbhavati bhārata

abyutthānaṃ adharmasya

tadātmānaṃ sṛjāmyaham

Sunrise and light succeed darkness; as though to reaffirm this belief, to protect the ancient knowledge, forming the vital veins of Bhārata – the source of all knowledge, Lord Vishnu is arriving in disguise (word ‘gupta’ in Sanskrit means ‘disguise’) as Vishnugupta~VishwaVidyapeetha! Not at some faraway place, very close by! Not in distant future… very soon!

Yes, a ViśvaVidyāPīṭha, reminiscent of Takṣaśilā ViśvaVidyālaya of yester years is coming up very soon to preserve and promote the invaluable treasure of Bhāratīya knowledge and art! That will be in Gokarna, the holy seat of Lord Śankara’s only Ātmaliṅga; in the holy land of Ashoke, which was sanctified by the sacred footsteps of ĀdiŚankara not once, but three times over!

Why only in Ashoke?

‘Īśānaḥ sarvavidyānām’ – Ashoke is at the peak of Gokarna, where the only Ātmaliṅga of Śiva, the Lord of all learning presides.

Ashoke is close to the birthplace of Lord Hanuman, a master of Vedas, who received hearty appreciation for his supreme knowledge from none other than ŚrīRāma himself.

ŚrīŚaṅkara, who lorded over the kingdom of knowledge, who decorated the title Sarvajña, who is the crowning glory of our rich heritage of Bhāratīya guru paramparā, not only visited Ashoke maximum times – that is, three times – he also stayed there for a full month. This definitely speaks volumes about the uncommon greatness of the soil of Ashoke.

To top it all, ĀdiŚankara established Raghūttama Maṭha – the present Ramachandrāpura Maṭha – in this very place for the protection of Dharma and propagation of knowledge!

Even though Ātmaliṅga is situated close to the Gokarna beach, its eternal lamp – that is, knowledge and wisdom of vedic scholars who worshipped Ātmaliṅga, shone in the Agrahāras (dwelling places) at the peak of Śataśṛṅga mountains of Ashoke.

Ashoke was also the seat of penance and perseverance of Brahmarṣi Daivarāta, acclaimed as the modern day mantradṛṣṭa (one who saw Vedas). Brahmarṣi Daivarāta had envisioned the dream of establishing a vedic research center at Ashoke. With that vision in mind he had reserved required land under the name ‘ Gorakṣabrahmacaryāśrama’.

At this juncture, Sri Devashrava Sharma, the son of Brahmarṣi Daivarāta, has donated the land required for the project and is leading the Vishnugupta~VishwaVidyapeetha project from the front.

ViśvaVidyāPīṭha: the driving force behind planning and execution

Great projects can’t materialize without great resolve; great resolve can be made only by great visionaries and great organizations!

Force behind the mega project ViśvaVidyāPīṭha is none other than SriRamachandrapuraMatha, which can deservingly boast of being the only pīṭha with unbroken ĀdiŚankara lineage; is it not the first and foremost duty of the true lineage of the Jagadguru, who adorned the SarvajñaPīṭha, to plan a project to preserve and protect all the branches of learning of Bhāratīya heritage?

ĀdiŚankara is the inspiration and preoccupation; dedication of the project too is to Him…

SriRamachandrapuraMatha is creating a unique ViśvaVidyāPīṭha at the place of its creation, in memory of ĀdiŚankara – its creator, using His own strength and dedicates this project at His Lotus Feet as a small offering!

Universe of BhāratīyaVidyā is the syllabus of this University!

The syllabus of ViśvaVidyāPīṭha will include and adopt every possible branch of education, which was considered by Bhāratā of yore, as part of formal education.

It will include:

Four Vedas – Ṝgveda, Yajurveda, Sāmaveda, and Atharvaveda.

Four UpaVedas – Āyurveda, Dhanurveda, Gāndharvaveda, Arthaśāstra.

Six Vedāngas – Śikṣā, Vyākaraṇa, Chandassu, Nirukta, Jautiṣya, Kalpa.

Purāṇa and History  including Rāmāyaṇa, Mahābhārata and Bhāgavata.

Ṣaḍdarśanas – Mīmāṃsā, vedānta, nyāya, Vaiśeṣika, Sāṅkhya, Yoga.

Dharmaśāstra which leads to a life sans blemish, righteous living.

Agriculture, the skill which ensures availability of nectar like food from the soil, without which life itself is listless.

Gourakṣā, the leading light for protection of Goumātā, universal mother, who is the abode of all Gods.

Agriculture Contact

Vāṇijya (Commerce), which introduces the traditional Bhāratīya system of trade-without-lies-and-cheating.

64 branches of art to the extent practicable more specifically music, instrumental music, dance, acting, dressing & make-up, creative writing, drawing, wood carving, Vāstuśāstra, cookery, Scienceof omens, Vṛkṣāyurveda, perfumery, embroidery & sewing, handicrafts, gemology, metallurgy, art of massaging, linguistics of Indian languages, traditional games, exercise.

To ensure that a student who graduates from the ViśvaVidyāPīṭha doesn’t become a misfit in contemporary society-he/she will study-

  • Languages of modern world like English, Hindi
  • Contemporary general knowledge
  • Right amount of modern technology
  • Present constitution of Bhārata
  • Real history of the nation

Finally, the empowered student who graduates from this ViśvaVidyāPīṭha will be equipped with the skills and art of self-defense which will help him to become a brave defender of dharma and self.

ViśvaVidyāPīṭha is being designed in such a way that a child who enters the ViśvaVidyāPīṭha as a beginner will emerge as a veteran and treasure of learning and wisdom!

Jack of all; Master of one!

The gem of learning who blooms in ViśvaVidyāPīṭha should gain complete mastery in any one subject of his choice; he should also get introduction/entry-level knowledge in all the branches of Bhāratīya education. This is the pattern here.

The principle behind the pattern:

Like the organs of in a body, every Bhāratīya Vidyā (education) is organically connected to all other vidyās; they dawn on the student who approaches them in their entirety.

Creation of Warriors for Virtues – the founding principle:

Don’t we know that ViṣṇuGupta Chāṇakya, who was Achārya at Takṣaśilā ViśvaVidyālaya, moulded Chandra Gupta and through him ended the tyranny of Nanda to establish a kingdom of virtue?

In the same way, the ViśvaVidyāPīṭha will work to produce world winning warriors of wisdom, who will pave the way for establishment of RāmaRājya in Bhārata, and bring in the reign of dharma.

To signify this intent, the ViśvaVidyāPīṭha is named as ‘Vishnugupta~VishwaVidyaPeetha’

Let Takṣaśilā come to life again…

Then, Takṣaśilā ViśvaVidyālaya, which was home for all Bhāratīya Vidyās, where tens of thousands of young seekers of knowledge came looking to get education got the light of wisdom, which was the Everest of Pride for entire Bharatavarṣa, was destroyed systematically!

Today, ViśvaVidyāPīṭha is being established in Ashokavana on the same lines as Takṣaśilā ViśvaVidyā with the divine grace of Lord Śankara, the blessings of ĀdiŚaṅkara, sacrifices and service of numerous virtuous people.

It is not a droplet of selfishness; it is an all compassing ocean of wisdom!

What is being built here is the nation itself; not just an educational institution! Objective here is not to bring a person or an organisation to light; illuminating the minds of thousands and thousands of Bhāratīyas by providing the luminous current of knowledge, and illuminating the nation through them and thereby providing light to the whole universe is the guiding principle!

For that very reason, it is not the duty of only me; not the duty of only you; it the duty of you and me! Duty towards our nation! Duty towards God! Duty towards uplifting the living world!

Oh, fellow countrymen who raise your head proudly and proclaim Bhārata is my country, this is God’s call for you! Country’s call! Call of our ancestors! Call of your very soul!

Come, become a brick in building a bright and brilliant Bhārata!

Come, become a log of wood in the mega sacrificial fire of learning to illuminate the entire universe!

Become a bowl of wisdom gems which will be a gift to the universe from Bharat!

Let’s preserve and protect the remaining vidyās, let’s promote them, let’s preserve and put to practice the light given by God to the living world.
